Chickens for Sale

Every year, Quennell Lake Livestock Conservancy hatches and raises large numbers of birds of the breeds we work with. Hatching eggs, chicks and adult birds are available for purchase at different times of the year. This sales page reflects what is available at any given time.
No Hens Without Roosters!!!
Chicks are hatched 50% male and 50% female. This means that for every female bird we raise we must also grow out a male bird. It costs a lot of money. We cannot provide pullets and hens for you to purchase if we do not also have a market for the roosters. For breeding purposes, only one rooster is needed for every 10-15 hens and, sadly, there is not yet a developed market for heritage breed meat birds (we don't understand why, since they taste much better than commercial broilers).
We do understand that most small flock owners don't want or can't keep any rooster at all. To solve this dilemma, we have the cockerels and roosters professionally slaughtered at a licensed facility, vacuum packed and frozen. They taste fabulous, and we can give you cooking instructions. By purchasing the frozen roosters, you make it possible for us to continue breeding.

The Pot Luck Hens
These are hens who have lost their leg bands so we can no longer determine how old they are. Potluck hens could be anywhere from under 1 to 5 years old. We can make absolutely no promises about how much they are laying and how long they will continue to lay. For this reason, we are selling the hens at the price we would normally charge for older hens.
